Everything 2.MD.C.8 asks for
The Common Core standard devoted to money reads: solve word problems involving dollar bills, quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies, using $ and ¢ symbols appropriately. Three worksheet types on this page cover it, and you can print all three from the same controls.
Counting all four coins to $1
The default sheet: mixed piles of quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies totalling under a dollar, sorted largest first, with one answer box each. Coin values are off the faces at this range — by 2nd grade the point is knowing that a quarter is 25¢, not reading it off the coin — and a coin key at the top of the page keeps that fair rather than a memory test.
Money word problems
Switch to Word problems for the standard's own form: Maya has 2 dimes and 3 pennies. How many cents does she have? and Kenji buys a pretzel for 71¢. He pays with a $1 bill. How much change does he get? Each has a work box and an answer box, and the ¢ and $ symbols are deliberately left off the answer box — writing the right symbol is part of the standard, so the sheet does not do it for them.
Making change from $1
Switch to Making change for the third strand. Prices run from a dime to 99¢, everything is paid with a dollar, and the count-up steps print the change coins above a row of boxes so the student counts up from the price instead of borrowing across a decimal point.
